Get to know me.
I am a TEFL certified British English teacher currently living in Barcelona. In 2010, I travelled to Spain and fell in love with everything about the country. This is where my language journey began. Upon returning home to London, I decided I was going to start learning Spanish, determined that one day I was going to live in Spain. At the same time, my niece was learning to read and write in English and that’s when I realised what an incredibly rich language I was lucky to call my mother tongue. Naturally, I found myself constantly comparing the two languages and became fascinated by how we express ourselves across different cultures. Three years later, I found myself packing up my flat in West London and moving to Barcelona with only a suitcase to my name. It was one of the scariest and best things I have ever done because learning a new language has opened up the world to me. I continue to study Spanish because I believe the learning process is never-ending while at the same time I am trying to absorb as much as I can of the Catalan language. I now teach English online to people from all over the world. I love my job and I love meeting new people and helping them achieve their goals. Watch my video on the homepage to find out more.
My approach.
Every teacher has a different style of teaching, no matter what the subject is. I believe in an authentic approach which is mostly based on natural conversation and always focused on your needs. Prepare to speak in the lessons because that’s what we are here for, to build your confidence and speak English with Jo!
STAGE 1.
Getting to know you.
I believe it is important to get to know my students. We are all individuals which means no two lessons that I teach are the same. I need to know what your interests are, how you like to learn and why you are learning English. In return you will get to know me which means that our verbal interactions will always be authentic preparing you for a real life conversation.
STAGE 2.
A personalised programme.
Based on my analysis of your needs at stage one, I create a learning plan that is specific to you. This is flexible and should your needs change at anytime we can work together to amend your program so that you always feel like you are progressing and getting closer to that goal.
STAGE 3.
Teamwork.
My lessons are very much removed from the old-fashioned approach of student follows teacher. Yes, I am committed to teaching you new things and constantly delivering my best but we are equals and I am sharing this journey with you. My teaching method is interactive and collaborative and it’s important to recognise that your dedication and enthusiasm are necessary in order to reach your objective.
